Indications/Uses
UTI including prostatitis, urethritis & cervicitis gonorrhea, GI infections including typhoid fever. Resp tract (except pneumonia), skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Mild to moderate UTI 250 mg twice daily. Severe UTI, chronic prostatitis, GI infections 500 mg twice daily. Mild to moderate resp tract, bone & joint, skin & soft tissue infections 250-500 mg twice daily. Severe resp tract, bone & joint, skin & soft tissue infections 500-750 mg twice daily. Acute gonorrhea 250 mg as single dose. Acute osteomyelitis Not <750 mg twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, flatulence, anorexia, dysphagia; dizziness, headache, weakness, insomnia, agitation, tremor; hypersensitivity reactions; interstitial nephritis, renal failure, polyuria, urinary retention, urethral bleeding, vaginitis, acidosis, eosinophilia, leucopenia, leucocytosis, anemia, granulocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Al- or Mg-containing antacids, theophylline, cyclosporine, probenecid, anticoagulants, metoclopramide.
